Except the professor looked nothing like Mister Rotter, and he goes blah blah blah journey and stuff, but he gave me a cute pet! How nice is that! Say hi, Mister Fancy Pants!

Haha, there you go! It's not so bad being here after all, huh? You can make friends with a lot of different Pokemon, and even if you end up not battling much or not at all, you can do whatever you want with them at your side.

Yeah, I don't know if I'll really be into the whole... fighting... thing. It sounds really dangerous, and what if there's bluh...

There isn't, Pokemon are pretty tough and battles rarely escalate that much. You should have some healing items in there too to start off with, and the Pokemon Center is in every town and heals up your Pokemon free of charge. Don't worry, it'll be fine.

[but it wasn't said three times!]

That's a relief! I usually don't like fighting. Unless it's guys fighting over a girl, that can be really exciting.

[That sounds like a really boring thing to fight over. And that's assuming the girl would want whoever wins, anyway, isn't it? Is this what kids that go to regular schools do all day, just invest themselves in other peoples' romantic entanglements?]

You'll...get the hang of it, just watch out for other trainers on routes, if they see you they'll assume that means you want to battle. They can be kind of pushy about it.

... Are you serious? One look and it's all "we have to fight"? That's so rude! What if I'm really tired and I just wanted to ask if there's a nearby hotel?

Ugh, I know, there's one on the beginning trail too named Joey, he just wants to brag about his Rattata all the time. The "NPCs" here are kinda strange that way, if you thought Mom was weird enough, it only gets weirder.

[and distractions kick in again-]

Wait, there are rat-like monsters here too? How adorable!

--Oh, yes, there's lots of rodent-type Pokemon around here, and there's dogs, and ghosts, and even ice cream cones. Pokemon can come in a lot of different varieties, that's what makes them so interesting besides their abilities.

[Waving a hand enthusiastically-]

Ghosts, I want the ghost ones! Then I can show them to all my ghost friends back at Monster High! I wonder if they have other ones like me and my friends... a vampire one for me, a zombie for Ghoulia,a mummy for Cleo, a sea creature for Lagoona, a werewolf for Clawdia - oh, oh, and one for Clawd too! - a put-together living corpse for Frankie...

[Does she... ever stop talking or is her list of friends just that long.]

[Golly, this is going on a while isn't it? At least slow down a little so Maka can answer!]

Water types live in the sea generally, and they come in lots of different shapes and sizes. Um, there's Cofagrigus, which is a walking sarcophagus with a face. I guess a lot of the ghost types can account for the others, and the dogs for werewolves.

[A pause, then--]

You really know more than one werewolf? I've only seen one in my whole life.

Really? That's strange, most werewolves have, like, a huuuuuge family! Knowing one leads to knowing dozens!

Clawdia is like totally my best ghoulfriend, and I've met at least two of her sisters, and she's got a brother named Clawd, and he's my boyfriend! He's the sweetest, cutest, most amazing guy ever!

[This is followed by a dreeeamy sigh~]

Magical beings are kinda...elusive in my world.

[Most of them were driven to extinction by actions of the Academy in the past, way before Maka was born. She used to regard it as just history, but in retrospect it...disgusts her at how unnecessarily cruel it was.]

But anyway, that's the real benefit of exploring this world, too, you get to see all the different varieties of Pokemon and decide on which ones you like and want to befriend.

Oh, well that's probably because you're a normie. We don't interact too much, which is such a shame, you guys throw some pretty fun parties!

Ah, my friend Kid likes to have parties at the Gallows Mansion, you'd probably fit in there perfectly.

[Really, Draculaura would probably get along particularly well with Liz, since they both seem to be into the idea of shopping.]

I wouldn't exactly call him a normie, but I'm definitely one.

O-oh, I meant back in my own world, the Gallows Mansion is his home in Death City. You can still meet a lot of normies here, though. Some of my friends are the more normal people I've ever met.

There's a circus every month in Goldenrod, too. They have a pretty decent show and games to play--sometimes the NPCs here even throw big parties on holidays like Christmas. Those are pretty extravagant affairs.

Oooh, that sounds fangtastic! Even more of a reason to head on over to that place!

You can see all kinds of Pokemon in the show, too, Joker has a lot of them. He'd probably even let you help out with something you have a special talent for, he's always looking for extra help to make the circus great.
